David B. Stewart

Augusta, GA – David B. Stewart, 59, entered into rest Thursday, September 24, 2015.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 3, 2015, at 1:00 PM from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Father Mark Van Alstine officiating.

Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Stewart, son of CSM Robert J. Stewart (Ret) and Patricia Leach Stewart, and the late Nancy Sortillo Stewart, was born in Honolulu, HI. He was a teacher with the Richmond County Board of Education. During high school, he played football with Glenn Hills High School and later played semi-pro football with the Augusta Eagles. He was graduate of Augusta State University.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Stewart, Jr, and MAJ Jeffrey Alan Stewart. In addition to his father and stepmother, he is survived by his brother, Kevin M. Stewart and his wife, Rebecca, of Augusta; his sister in law, MAJ Lyndel Stewart, of Albuquerque, NM; his uncle SGM Elliott Sortillo and his wife, Sondra, of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to offer special thanks to the recent donor of David’s kidney after sixteen years of dialysis. Although he had it a short time it gave him new life.

A Catholic Vigil Service will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, October 2, 2015, at the funeral home. Following the service the family will receive friends until 8:00 PM.

    I was so sorry to hear about David. I cannot imagine how difficult it s to lose a child/sibling and my heart goes out to you. May you find some comfort knowing his body is healed and he is reunited in heaven with Nancy, Robert Jr. and Jeffrey. Prayers and love to you all.
