Barbara Bettes McKnight
Hephzibah, GA – Barbara Bettes McKnight, 88, beloved wife of Hubert D. McKnight for 55 years, moved to her new heavenly home on Sunday, July 3, 2022.
Celebration of life services will be held Friday, July 15, 2022, at 4:00 o’clock from Bible Deliverance Temple, corner of Eve and Fenwick streets in Augusta, GA, with Pastor Jimmy Murray, Reverend Dr. Kelly McKnight, and Reverend Tim Pendrey officiating.
Mrs. McKnight, daughter of the late Joe Wallace Bettes, and Jewel Mae Dowdle Bettes, was born in Lubbock, TX.
She was a faithful Christian and member of Bible Deliverance Temple of which she was dedicated to and served for over 40 years in the Children’s Ministry, teaching in both Sunday School and Children’s Church, she also, directed the BDT Children’s Choir.
Mrs. McKnight retired after 28 years from Ryan’s Steak House on Peach Orchard Road where she worked in the bakery and did prep work for the kitchen staff. People used to say it was the best bread pudding this side of the Mississippi and would come there just for that.
She was a very talented woman, in her pastimes she loved to sew, paint, and do crafting of all sorts. She always shared the things that she had made with the ones that she loved, and sometimes with people she didn’t even know. That was just her style. If you were lucky enough to receive one of her pieces, you were blessed. She enjoyed life, family members and friends. Barbara was always there with words of encouragement and always there to brighten the lives of others with her giving spirit.
Mrs. McKnight was preceded in death by her son, Leonard Duwayne Rankin and her son-in-law Chet White.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Donna Rankin Robertson of NV, Paula Torrence Hepburn (David), of Amherst, OH, Carol Torrence Jones (Curtis), of Pensacola, FL, Connie Torrence, of Lorain, OH, and Diane White of Augusta, GA; her daughter-in-law Debra M. Rankin of Albany, GA; her 19 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to, Bible Deliverance Temple’s Children’s Department, 1857 Fenwick Street, Augusta, GA 30904. Or do it Barbara style… do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone down on their luck in honor of her.
