Martinez, GA – Phoebe H. Whitfield, 87, wife of the late Carl Whitfield, entered into rest Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Kentwood Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 31, at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors, with the Reverend Jerry Wilson officiating.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Whitfield, daughter of the late B.J. and Fannie Floyd Haley, was born in Hill City, Georgia. She was a longtime member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and Central Baptist Church. With her husband she ran Whitfield Azalea Nurseries for many years.
She is survived by her sons Dan Whitfield and his wife Belinda, and David Whitfield and his wife, Debbie, all of Martinez; her brother Paul Haley, of Rome, GA; her sisters, Gracie Holland, of Dalton, GA, and Helen Sheets, of Acworth, GA; her grandchildren, David Whitfield, Jr and his wife, Kim, Scott Whitfield, and his wife, Deborah Anne, Lisa Griffin, and Stephen Whitfield; and her great grandchildren, Whitney Whitaker, Chase Whitfield, Kalie Whitfield, Sarah Scott Whitfield, and Hampton Whitfield.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Kentwood Nursing Home for their outstanding and compassionate care.

Gerald L. Carlisle, Sr
Aiken, SC – Gerald L. Carlisle, Sr, 72, husband of the late Sybil June Skipper Carlisle, of Adams Ave, entered into rest, Monday, December 26, 2011, at the Veterans Administration Hospital of Downtown Augusta.
Funeral services will be held from the graveside in Sunset Memory Gardens, Friday, December 30, at 2:00 PM.
Family and friends are requested to assemble at the graveside.
Mr. Carlisle was born in Libson, Ohio and served in the United States Army. He was employed by FMC Ford and was a member of Bath American Legion Post #153.
He is survived by his son, Gerald L. Carlisle Jr and his wife, Allison Whittle; his sister, Lynn Carlisle; his grandsons, Jason Carlisle, and Jeremiah Carlisle; and his granddaughters Tori Carlisle, and Kalie Carlisle.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bath American Legion Post #153 and the North Augusta American Legion Post #71.

Augusta, GA – Evelyn W. Nunn, 86, wife of the late Gerald Nunn, of Kenny Rd, entered into rest, Sunday, December 25, 2011, at Anchor Health and Rehabilitation.
Funeral services will be from the First Baptist Church of Windsor, SC, on Thursday, December 29, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Robert L. Altman officiating. She will lie in state from 1:00 PM until the hour of service.
Interment will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Nunn, daughter of the late Albert Linsey and Bessie Eubanks Whitaker, was born in Harlem, GA. She retired from JB White & Co in the shoe sales department and also worked for Rosenthals Shoes in National Hills for twenty years. She was a member of Bayvale Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Kay Nunn Davis, her brother, James Whitaker, her sisters, Mary Blackstone, Lillie Mae McGahee, and Louise Hair.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Kelli Ingram and her husband, Marty, of Aiken, and Brian Davis and his wife, Kandi, of Leesville, SC; her great grandchildren, MacKenzie Davis, Ashleigh Davis, Emileigh Davis, and Billy Ingram; her son in law, Steve Davis, of Leesville, SC; her sisters Elizabeth Adams, of Dearing, Catherine Carpenter, of Augusta, and Faye Radford, of Harlem; and her niece, Kathy Frerichs-Milton, of Lincolnton, GA

Rosemarie Casella Hydrick
Myrtle Beach , SC – Entered into rest on Saturday, December 17, 2011, with her husband by her side, Rosemarie Casella Hydrick, 66, formerly of Augusta .
The funeral mass will be at the Church of the Most Holy Trinity on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at 12:15 P.M., with Father Michael Lubinski celebrant. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park .
Mrs. Hydrick, or “Ree” as she was known to her friends and family, was a native of Augusta , but had made Myrtle Beach her home for the past fifteen years. She was the daughter of the late Vincent and Martha Holley Casella. She was a graduate of Aquinas High School and had attended the Women’s College in Milledgeville. While living in Augusta she had been a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and had attended Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She was currently a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Myrtle Beach . She had worked as secretary to the headmaster at Augusta Prep and Aquinas High School in Augusta and had worked in the Horry County School System of Myrtle Beach at Socastee High School .
Mrs. Hydrick is survived by her beloved husband of forty five years, Philip Ray Hydrick; she was the loving mother of her daughter and son-in-law, Carla Michelle Howard and Shawn Tackett of Myrtle Beach, and her son and daughter-in-law, Philip Vincent and Lora Hydrick of Martinez, GA; her three grandchildren, whom she adored, Blake Andrew Etterle, Mary Catherine Casella Hydrick and Victoria Marie Howard; a devoted sister and brother-in-law, Jencie Casella Hargrove and her husband Phil, also of Martinez. She is also survived by four nephews whom she loved as her own sons, James Charles Hargrove, of Evans, William Joseph Hargrove, of Martinez, Vincent Philip Hargrove of North Augusta and Philip Andrew Hargrove also of Evans.
Pallbearers will be her nephews as well as Earl Sturkey, Thomas Brewer, Arnold Redd, Clement Rogers, Mitch Rifkin and Chuck Armour.

Mrs. Baxley, daughter of the late James E. Howell, Sr. and Virginia Howell Johnson, was a native and lifelong resident of Augusta and a Baptist. She was a loving, giving, precious sister, aunt, friend and family person who’s family was her life.
She is survived by her brother, James E. “Sonny” Howell, Sr of Augusta; sisters and brother-in-law, Virginia “Sissy” Gaskill of Augusta, Pat Williams of Martinez, Robin Diaz of Augusta, Mickey and Rev. Elaine Montano

On December 8, 2011, Elaine Montano of Augusta, GA, went home to God.

Elaine, born in Hartford, Connecticut on March 31, 1961, was the daughter of Robert C. Montano and Teresa C. Montano of Simsbury, CT.
Elaine’s love for golf brought her to the CSRA in the 1980’s. She competed on the LPGA golf tour for many years. Her home course was Midland Valley Country Club in Graniteville, SC, where she worked as the pro shop administrator allowing her the opportunity to share her passion for golf with others. Elaine began her career in 1993 with La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries of the Southeast, eventually assuming the role of Vice-President of Marketing.
Elaine loved life, and loved sharing it with others. Among her many passions were gardening, cycling, cooking, traveling and most importantly spending time with her family and family of friends. Her appreciation for all of God’s creations was particularly evident in her deep love for animals.
She was a nurturing, beautiful, gentle spirit who had a heart for serving others. This was best seen through her ministries at her home parish, Church of the Holy Comforter, where she was an active member of the Prayer Team, Prayer Chain, and Prayer Shawl Ministry.
Elaine is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Montano, brother Steven Montano (Julie Montano), and partner of twenty years Martha Percival Brown, as well as many beloved members of her extended family.

Dorothy Louise Jones
Augusta, GA – Mrs. Dorothy Louise Jones, 90, wife of the late Carson Jones entered into rest Friday, December 9, 2011 at University Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Monday December 12, 2011, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Reverend Charles Whisnant officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Jones, was born on February 24, 1921 in Lawrence County, Nebraska. She was the youngest of twelve children born to the late Albert Paul and Louise Jahnke Alber. Upon completing high school, she attended a local business college. After graduating, she began teaching in a local one room school house that she herself had attended as a child. She served two years as a grade school teacher in her community. After the advent of Pearl Harbor in 1941, she and her sister Martha took the Civil Service Qualification Exam and moved to Washington DC to assume positions working for the Department of Defense in the Pentagon. It was in Washington DC that she met her husband, Carson and they were married in November 1943.In 1948 they moved to Augusta and she went to work for McLean Trucking Company, where she served as Office Manager for 36 years. One of the greatest highlights of her life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She served as a creative inspiration and a source of guidance to her great-grandson Brent, who she cared for on an almost daily basis since the time he was born and throughout his childhood. She was a member of Burns Memorial United Methodist Church. She will be remembered by friends and loved one’s as a person who always knew the proper thing to say and do as as someone who expected and demanded excellence from those around her. Her immaculate housekeeping and organizational skills as well as her careful attention to detail will never be forgotten.
She was preceeded in death by her step-daughter, Shirley Gardiner.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane White and her husband Oliver Theodore; sisters, Elsa Shultze and Rose Bott;grandchildren, Oliver “Ted” White, Jr., and his wife Mary and Christa Diane Carter; great-grandsons, Richard Brent Carter and Payton Carson Carter.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Mrs. Evelyn Pace for her tender loving care and companionship to Mrs. Jones over the past year.
