Augusta, GA – Josephine Wright Portwood, 79, of Alfred Lane, wife of the late, William T. Portwood, entered into rest, Sunday, September 26, 2010, at the residence.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 29, at 11:00 am, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, with the Reverend Anton G. Payne Sr, officiating.

Family and friends are requested to assemble at the grave.

Mrs. Portwood, daughter of the late Bernard and Bessie Johnson Wright, was born in Keysville, GA. She was employed as a clerk at Bell Auditorium.

She is survived by her sons Tom Portwood and his wife, Kayla, of Moody, AL, and Bart Portwood and his fiance, Tammy Owens, of Aiken, SC; her daughters, Vicci Portwood, of Augusta, and Lisa Hilliard, of Guyton, GA; her nephew, Don Martin, of Columbia; her grandchildren, Bartley Portwood, II, Michael Portwood, Will Portwood, Joshua Hilliard, Kortnee Hilliard, Anna Portwood, and Ella Portwood; and her special friends, Margaret and Everett Caraway, and Doris Godbee.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Susan Herrin and Emily Herrin.

Patricia (Trisha) Ann Bernard


Augusta , GA - Patricia (Trisha) Ann Bernard, 58, wife of John Bernard, of Fernwood Circle , entered into rest Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at the University Hospital .

Memorial services will be held Monday, September 20, 2010 at 7:00 PM from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Reverend Michael Jarrard officiating.

Mrs. Bernard, daughter of the late Jack M. and Martha Stewart Harvard, was born in Augusta .

In addition to her husband, survivors include her sons, Boo Henderson ,of Augusta, James “Auggie” Henderson and his wife, Becky, of Hephzibah, Joshua Bernard and his wife, Crystal, of Augusta and Anthony Bernard of NC; her daughter, Tracey Deas and her husband, Michael, of Hephzibah; her grandchildren, Jack Henderson, Ryan Henderson, Destiny Henderson, Isaiah Henderson and Dillon Bernard; her brother, Johnny Harvard of Augusta; her sisters, Mary Anne Harris and Betty Reese both of Augusta, and Cindy Deas of Grovetown; and her life long friend Katherine Reese of Augusta.

Ruby Craddock

Martinez, GA – Mrs. Ruby Laura Craddock went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 16, 2010.

Mrs. Craddock has been conveyed to Newcomer Family Funeral Home in Orlando, FL for funeral and interment services.

She was predeceased by two husbands, Grady Seawright and Julius Craddock, a son Ray Seawright and a granddaughter, Laura Jean Chrisco and four brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Chrisco and her husband Henry of Martinez; sisters, Ruth Horton and her husband R.C., of Lakeland, FL and Mary Perry and her husband Johnny of Altamonte Springs, FL; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren and host of neices and nephews.

The family would like to thank her wonderful caregiver Angel Smith, Alliance Hospice and the Pallative Care Unit at University Hospital for their love and support during this time.

Elizabeth “Libby” West

Waynesboro, GA – Elizabeth “ Libby” Sara West, 94, wife of the late Charles Henry West, entered into rest Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Brentwood Terrace.

Graveside services will be held, Friday, September 17, at 10:00 am at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Avera, GA, with Pastor Mark Taylor and Pastor Dan White officiating.

Family and friends are requested to assemble at the grave.

Mrs. West was one of twelve children of the late Theodore and Mary Carey Weaver. She was a native of Pennsylvania and enjoyed her work as a nanny for the McGettigan family.  Mrs. West moved to Georgia twenty-five years ago after retiring.

She is survived by sons, Thomas West, of Augusta, Robert West and his wife, Laurie, of Wilmington, NC, and James West and his wife, Janet, also of Wilmington, NC; daughters, Betty Jane (BJ) Reese and her husband, Vic, of Thomson, GA, and Joyce Mawbry, of Hughesville, PA; brother, Francis Weaver, of Cleveland, OH; numerous beloved nephews and nieces; grandchildren, Eric West, of Wilmington, NC, Philip West, of Wilmington, NC, Melodie Garverick Nixon, of Evans, and Melissa Garverick Bodiford, of Augusta; and four great grandchildren, Nicole Nixon, Charles Nixon, Sarah Nixon, and Trevor Bodiford.

Mrs. West helped to raise her step children including Lila Steffler of Secane, PA, the late Charles West, Jr, Russell West of PA, Edna West Barbacano, of Elkton, MD, the late Annabelle West Pollock and the late Harry West.

Pallbearers will be Eric West, Philip West, Sean Nixon, Brian Bodiford, Michael Barbacano, and Norbert McGettigan, Jr.

If so desired, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. West’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.

Martinez, GA – Dorothy James Henderson, 82, wife of sixty two years to Robert L. Henderson, entered into rest, Saturday, September 11, 2010, at Doctor’s Hospital.

Memorial services will be held from the Central Christian Church, this Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 6:00 PM with the Reverend Charles Cochran officiating.

Sherry Barnett

Augusta, GA – Mrs. Sherry Lynn Mitchum Barnett, 54, wife of 28 years to  B.J. Barnett entered into rest, Friday, September 3, 2010, at University Hospital.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 6, 2010 at 11:00 AM., in the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Pastor Jeff Hines officiating.

Mrs. Barnett was born in Elizabeth City, NC. She was a loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was a Office Assistant for the Medical College of Georgia.  She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceeded in death by her father Herman Mitchum.

Other survivors include her mother, Janie Riddick Mitchum of Augusta; sister, Wanda Barnett and her husband Randy; brother Larry Mitchum and his wife Cindy all of Grovetown; nieces and nephews, Amanda Barnett, Mitch Barnett, Paula Rhodes, Corey Jones, McKenzie Jones, Dana Lonaker, Shaun Coburn; great neices and nephews, Dylan, Tyler and Ayla Lonaker.

Louie Edward Seago

Hephzibah , GA- Louie Edward Seago, 62, husband of Annie (Liz) Seago of Patiller Rd. entered into rest Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at the residence.

Funeral services will be held, Friday, September 3, at 2:00 pm, from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Pastor Robert Driggers and Reverend Lance Halford officiating.

Interment will follow in the Liberty United Methodist

Church Cemetery .

Mr. Seago, son of the late Earl Jenkins Seago, Sr. and Inez Reeves Seago Edwards,  was born in Richmond County . He retired from Lucky’s Cabinet Shop as a cabinet maker.

Mr. Seago was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church and served in the United States Army with the 82nd Air Bourne Division  in Vietnam .

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his step-son Travis Emmert of Beaufort, SC, and his step-daughter, Sandra Hoogland of Springville, Iowa; seven grandchildren;  his brothers, Earl J. Seago, Jr. , Dennis Seago and his wife Ellen, and Terry Seago and his wife Annabelle, all of Augusta,

Pallbearers will be Travis Emmert, John Hoogland, Wendall Chavous Sr. , Wendell Chavous Jr., Bobby Herron and Stan Moore.
