Michael W. Rodgers

Augusta, GA – Michael W. Rodgers, 58, husband of 22 years to Susan Teasley Rodgers, of Virginia Ave, entered into rest June 28, 2010, at the residence.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, June 30, at 3:00 pm from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Pastor Alvin Jones officiating.
Mr. Rodgers was born in Munich, Germany to the late Russell and Mary Theiss Rodgers. He lived in Augusta for most of his life. He worked as an Exhibit Designer for the Signal Museum at Fort Gordon for 23 years. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era and was a member of the VFW.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Joshua and Russell, brother, P.J. Rodgers, of Evans; sister, Susie Murphey, of Brooksville, FL; niece, Kim Brown, and nephew, Kris Rodgers.
The family will receive friends following the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Hazel McDonald

Gibson, GA – Mrs. Hazel Walden McDonald entered into rest on Sunday, June 27, 2010.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday July 1, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Pastor Edward Newsome and Reverend Perry Walden officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Andy Walden, Charles Walden, Clay Walden, Jeff Walden, Gozie Walden and Bobby Sammons.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, George T. McDonald and her son Joel T. McDonald.
Survivors include her daughter, Gloria Peluso of Gibson, GA; granddaughter, Stacy Page (Donald) and grandson, Christopher McDonald both of Augusta; great-grandchildren, Hadley Elizabeth and Aidan Thomas McDonald; brothers, J.C. Walden of Waynesboro, GA and James L. Walden of Wrens, GA; sisters, Ogle Sammons of Edgehill, GA, Ethel Newsome of Belvedere, SC and Annette Marschie of Oakfield, WI and other nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McDonald was born August 9, 1923 in Edgehill, GA to the late Gozie and Jeannie Hawkins Walden. She lived in Glascock County until 1952 when she moved to Augusta, GA where she lived for 30 years before returning to Glascock County in 1985. She was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was lovingly known by all as “Nanny Mac”. She was a founding member of Edgehill First Church of God and a previous member of Southgate Baptist Church in Augusta for 25 years. She retired from John P. King Mfg., Company as a seamstress and worked as a home health care aide after retirement.

Bethel J. Drew

Augusta, GA – Bethel J. Drew, 80, of Boykin Rd, entered into rest, Sunday, June 27, 2010, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Graveside services with full Military Honors will be held Thursday, July 1st, at 10:00 am, from Hillcrest Memorial Park, with Chaplain Finley Limehouse of Regency Hospice officiating.
Mr. Drew joined the United States Army in 1947, and honorably served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired from the Army in 1968 as an E-6 Staff Sergeant. In 1968 he became an employee of TTX-Hamburg in North Augusta, SC. He started out as a welder and advanced to the position of Director of Safety, a position he held until his retirement in 1991. He and his wife then retired to Edisto Island, SC, where they enjoyed seventeen years of retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Perry Drew, and by three sons, Eddie, Roger, and William David Drew.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Juanita Drew of Augusta; daughters, Linda and her husband Alvin Young of Augusta, and Donna Drew, of Seattle, WA; son Greg and his wife Norma Drew; grandchildren, Brandon Drew, April Drew, David W. Drew, and Tiffany Drew; great grandchildren, Kaden Desante, Tyler Martin, and Madeline Boyd; and nieces from Michigan and Tennessee.
The family wishes to thank special friend, Kim and all of the people with Regency Hospice.

Marjorie B. Hughes

Augusta, GA – Marjorie B. Hughes, wife of David Ralph Hughes of Crosley St, entered into rest, Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Westwood Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. from Hillcrest Baptist Church with Dr. Gordon Robinson officiating. Mrs. Hughes will lie in state from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of the service.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Hughes, daughter of the late Ruth Farr and Thomas B. Burch, lived in Augusta all of her life. She worked in Accounting with Federal Paper Board. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Margaret James Sunday School Class and the Young at Hearts.
She was preceded in death by her son, David Wayne Hughes.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Randy Hughes and his wife, Linda, of Palm City, FL; brother Dwight Burch and his wife, Laverne, of Augusta; grandsons, Jason R. Hughes, of Palm City, FL, and Brandon T. Hughes, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and her dog, Tippy.
Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Hillcrest Baptist Church, and members of the Margaret James Sunday School Class.

Carey K. Syms

Augusta, GA – Carey K. Syms, 86, wife of the late Harry B. Syms, Sr., entered into rest Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at Golden Living Center in Augusta.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 24, 2010, at 3:00 P.M., from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with the Reverend Andy Scott officiating . Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Syms, a native and lifelong resident of Augusta, was the daughter of the late Arthur and Alice Skinner Knight. She was a member of Berlin United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Syms was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene Knight, a sister, Ruby Johnson, a grandson Don Bargeron, Jr., and her son-in-law, John Garrett.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Virginia Syms of Augusta; daughters and son-in-law, Shirley Morris and Greg Wannamaker of North Augusta and Patricia Garrett of Mauldin, SC; sisters, Mildred Johnson, Margaret Scott and Lucille Flakes all of Augusta; eleven grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; as well as three great great grandchildren.

Augusta, GA – Christopher Nagy, 25, entered into rest Monday, June 14, 2010, at his residence.

He was employed at Admiral Steamers and worked for Cook Construction. He attended Butler High School.
We will cherish the memories that we have of Christopher and will thank God for the 25 years he allowed us to have. Christopher enjoyed being in the mountains with his wife, friends and family.

Augusta, GA – Mark Wayne Koone, 46, of Carmel Place, entered into rest Friday, June 11, 2010, at University Hospital.

Mr. Koone was a native of Richmond County and worked as an auto mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Middleton Koone, Jr..
Mr. Koone is survived by his daughter, Diana Hunter and her husband, Christopher, of Martinez; son, Mark Wayne Koone, Jr. of North Augusta, SC; grandchildren, Christopher Hunter, Jr, and Austin Hunter; mother, Frances Koone, of Augusta; brothers, Troy Koone and, his wife, Liz, and James M. Patricia “Patsy” Boyett Hendrix

Augusta, GA – Patricia “Patsy” Boyett Hendrix, 69, husband of Mr. Meredith Hendrix of New McDuffie Road, entered into rest Friday, June 11, 2010, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 14, 2010, at 11:00 A.M., from the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors with Reverend Christy Bandy officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Hendrix, a native and lifelong resident of Augusta was the daughter of the late Earl and Annie Cliett Boyett. She was a homemaker and attended Marks Baptist Church. She loved and adored her family but especially her grandchildren.
In addtion to her husband Mrs. Hendrix is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Charles Black of Millen and Melissa and Wesley Black of Augusta; sisters and brothers-in-law, Charlotte and Don Overton of Brilliant, AL, Barbara Hendrix of Winfield, AL, and Janice and Merv Harden of Martinez; and two grandchildren, Allen Black and Bradley Black; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Chalres Black, Wesley Black, Allen Black and Bradley Black.

Jesse B. Rachels

Augusta, GA – Jesse B. Rachels, 88, husband of the late Virginia Lamb Rachels, of Milledgeville Rd., entered into rest Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Doctor’s Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Friday, today, at 11:00 A.M., from the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Rachels, a lifelong resident of Augusta, was a gasoline truck driver for Boardman Petroleum. He was a member of Mize Memorial United Methodist Church. His family said he was a man who loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Mr. Rachels was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Collins.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Harry and Kathy Rachels of North Augusta, SC, Kay Barwick of Augusta, Phillip Rachels of Grovetown, Christopher and Karen Collins of Augusta and Julia Hartshorne of Grovetown; a brother, Henry “Bunk” Rachels of North Augusta, a sister, Mae Rachels of Martinez; and six grandchildren, Bobby Barwick, Ginny Barwick, Trey Hartshorne, Drew Hartshorne, Caitlin Collins and Cailey Collins.

Preston B. Hillman, Sr.

4Augusta, GA – Preston B. Hillman, Sr., 75, husband of 52 years to Mrs. Mary B. Hillman of Shirley Ave., entered into rest Thursday, June 3, 2010, at the V.A. Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 5, 2010, at 4:00 P.M., from the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Hillman, a native and lifelong resident of Augusta was the son of the late Floyd Beauford and Mary Cato Hillman. He had retired from Georgia Iron Works, was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan, and had been a baseball coach for the Richmond County Little League. Mr. Hillman was a member of the Central Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was a volunteer for the Kingdom Hall Quick Builds. He was a wonderful, loving husband and father.
Mr. Hillman was preceded in death by his grandson, Jeremy Spires and his sister, Annie Swann.
In addtion to his wife Mr. Hillman is survived by his children and their spouses, Mary Hillman and Brian Loomis of Hardeeville, SC, Bart and Gloria Hillman of Grovetown, Celia and Bert Nalley of Hephzibah, and Floyd B. and Anitra Hillman of Smyrna, GA; a brother, Beau Hillman and a sister Janie “Peggy” Evans both of Augusta; seven grandchildren, Jaimie Rosa, Chad Hillman, Matt Hillman, Cory Hillman, Sydney Hillman, Ashton Davis and DaKaari Hillman; as well as six great grandchildren.
