Gerald Lee “Doc” Russ, Sr.

Augusta, GA – Gerald Lee “Doc” Russ, Sr, 50, entered into rest Saturday, October 10, 2009, at University Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at 3:00 P.M., from the graveside in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Russ, a native of Greenwood County, SC, had lived most of his life in the Augusta area. He was a proud driver for Schneider National and a former employee of Johnson’s Used Cars for over twenty years. Mr. Russ was a member of the First Assembly of God and also attended Solomon’s Porch. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Mr. Russ was preceded in death by his father, George Richard Russ, Sr.
He is survived by his mother, Betty JoAnn Simmons Russ Pittman of Augusta; son and daughter in law, Gerald Lee and Fay Russ, Jr. of Waynesboro, GA; daughter Crystal Lori Russ and her partner Paula of Augusta; brothers and sister in law, George Richard “Rick” Russ, Jr. of Augusta and Robert M and Rosemarie Russ of Evans; grandchildren, John, Nikki and Lee Russ; uncle and aunt, Darryl and Fay Simmons of Waterloo, SC; aunt, Vivian Simmons of Laurens, SC; and his best friends, Wayne Fray, David Fray, Donald “Duck” Tyler and Ray Moyer.
The family will receive friends this Tuesday from 1:00 until the hour of the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Arietta Carroll Burk

Mauldin, SC – Mrs. Arietta Estelle Carroll Kirkland Burk, 83, wife of the late Joseph Rochester Burk entered into rest Monday, October 5, 2009.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 9, 2009 at 2:00 P.M., from the Hephzibah Baptist Church with Reverend Billy Carroll officiating.  Interment will follow in Hephzibah-Vance Cemetery.

Mrs. Burk was born and raised in Hephzibah, GA to the late John David and and Janie Hurt Carroll and was a member of Hephzibah Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Clark C. Kirkland, and a granddaughter, Lisa Deanne Kirkland

Survivors include her children, Dean D. Kirkland (Gloria), Keith K. Kirkland , Roger E. Kirkland (Susan), Brenda Koon; sister, Margie Ridgley; brother, C. Q. Carroll; 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Augusta, GA – Myrtle Whitaker Delay, 93, of Sprucewood Drive, wife of the late W.C. Delay, entered into rest, Monday, October 5, 2009, at University Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 8, at 2:00 pm, from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors, with the Reverends Fred Heard and Robert Riley officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Delay retired as a schoolteacher after thirty-nine years. She was the oldest member of Mize Memorial United Methodist Church and was a member of the Walter Sunday School class. She was also a member of the Adult Choir, the United Methodist Women, and the Sunrisers.
She is survived by her nieces, Christine Malcom and her husband, Lloyd, Augusta, Joyce Cunningham, Augusta, Cynthia Byrnes and her husband, Reggie, Martinez, Betty Riley and her husband, Robert, Grovetown, Ann Daly and her husband, Earl, Alexandria, VA, and Jane Jackson, Gray, GA; her nephews and their wives, Eugene and Iris Whitaker, Hephzibah, Lewis and Sylvia Whitaker, Harlem, and Warren and Juanita Whitaker, Midland, AL.
Pallbearers will be Clarence Malcom, Mark Malcom, Jeff Malcom, Scott Malcom, Jeffrey Malcom, and Aaron Malcom.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Walters Sunday School class of Mize Memorial UMC.

Ray Kent Daniels

Augusta, GA – Ray “Dan” Kent Daniels, 91, husband of Esther Arnett Daniels, entered into rest Monday, October 5, 2009, at the Golden Living Center.

Funeral services will be held at Sherwood Baptist Church, Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at 11:00 A.M., with the Reverend Jim Johnson officiating. Mr. Daniels will lie in state at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of the service. Interment will be at 2:00 P.M. in the Wrens City Cemetery.

Mr. Daniels was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Lizzie Faglier Daniels.

Other survivors include his children and their spouses, Charles E. and Elizabeth M. Daniels of Grovetown, Norma and James Grant of Kite, GA, Billy and Ramona Daniels of Bethlehem, GA and Sandra and John Finch of Evans; step-children and their spouses, Patricia and Edward Pace of Broadway, NC, Hazel and Butch McCarthy of Hephzibah, Tommy and Karen Arnett of Hephzibah, Linda and Harvey Anderson of North Augusta, SC, Brenda and Earl Herndon of Hephzibah; brother and his spouse, Jessie and Sarah Daniels of Danielsville, GA; sister, Magdalene Morris of Evans; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Miss Sheral Bradford

Augusta, Ga.- Miss Sheral Ellen Bradford entered into rest Monday, October 5, 2009 at the Medical College of Georgia.

Funeral  services will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 11:00 A.M., in the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Chaplain Kenneth Gross officiating.  Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Miss Bradford was a native of Augusta and was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph C. and E. Pearl Thompson Bradford and a brother, Richard Bradford.

She is survived by her nephews, neices and many cousins.

Augusta, GA – Miss Patricia Ann Horton, 64, of Greene Street  entered into rest, Saturday, October 3, 2009, at her residence.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors with Joe Hester officiating.

Mrs. Horton was born in Johnson County, GA and had retired from EZ-GO Textron.

Survivors include her children, Ervin Ambrose Gay, Jr., of Augusta, Coleman Isaac Gay of Waynesboro, Margaret Ann Barker of Aiken, SC, Dana Lynn Shire of Wahaiwa, HI and Sheena Whitney Smith of Augusta; brothers, Jessie Ray Horton of Athens, GA and James “Buddy” Horton of Augusta; grandchildren, Ashley Eden McDaniel, Devon Renee Gay, Christian Blake Rossbach, Jason Andrew Shire, Coleman Alec Gay and Nicholas Ryan Barker; Great-Grandchild Adyson Grace McDaniel.

She was preceded in death by her  daughter, Renee Smith and her mother, Mary Margaret Brantley.
