Lanelle Carl Anderson, Sr.

Anderson photoHephzibah, GA – Mr. Lanelle Carl Anderson, Sr., 73, husband of Martha Ann Anderson, entered into rest on Friday morning, October 30, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 2, 2009, at 11:00 am from the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors, with the Reverend Marion Jay officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the family section of Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Anderson, son of the late Lafayette and Myrtle Cox Anderson, was born in Augusta.  In 1954 he met Martha Ann Kirkland of Augusta.  In 1956 they were married.  From the middle 1950’s until 1994 they lived and raised their family on Louisville Road in South Augusta.  In 1994, they built their retirement home, slowed down and moved to Hephzibah.

Mr. Anderson was a certified Master Plumber and had been the owner and operator of Anderson Plumbing Company of Augusta since 1968.  Throughout his career he was instrumental in the construction and completion of many of the housing developments in South Augusta and Hephzibah.  He had been a partner in the Foremans Crossing development.  Mr. Anderson not only specialized in new construction, but is recalled by his family as leaving at all hours of the night to fix someone’s leaking emergency.

He enjoyed coon hunting with his sons, always had a multitude of beagle hounds and looked forward to attending the annual field trials in Orangeburg, SC.  He was always ready for a fishing trip and a family fish fry or attending a local gospel singing event or just sitting in the quietness of the Tennessee mountains.

In 2002, he and his wife adopted a new pet dog, Susie, who became his constant companion; oftentimes seen riding in his lap around Hephzibah, or accompanying him to the plumbing supply house.

He was a charter member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by their children, Lanelle Carl Anderson Jr, Hephzibah, Cynthia Ann Hallford (Joey), Hephzibah, Lynn A. Byrd (Phillip), Fernandina Beach, FL, Anthony Wayne Anderson (Tina), Augusta, Ann A. Smith (Glen), Orlando, FL; a brother, L.F. Anderson, Jr., Augusta; three sisters, Geraldine Hughes, Matthews, GA, Shirley Padgett, Hephzibah, and Barbara Bruce, Hartwell, GA; three grandchildren, Melanie Rebecca “Medy” Anderson, Amanda Denise “Tootie” Anderson, Olivia Paige “Doodlebug” Anderson; two step grandchildren, Kristin Lynn Gunn (Jamie), Brittany Anne Smith (Jose), two step great grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Jackson Gunn; several nieces and nephews, and his little dog, Susie.

Pallbearers will be Edwin L. Bromley, Josh Evans, Joey Hallford, Kenneth McCumbers, Glen Smith, and Phillip Byrd.

Carroll Hoyt Sasser

Augusta, Ga. – Mr. Carroll Hoyt Sasser, 76,  husband of Inge Schmidt Sasser entered rest on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at the VA Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 1:00 P.M., in Sherwood Baptist Church with Reverend Jim Johnson and Reverend Marion Jay officiating.  Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be: Robert Page, Alexander Joseph Page, James Emmanuel and Charlie Emmanuel.

Others survivors include his daughter, Janet Smith; step- sons, Robert Page  and Alexander Joseph Page; brother, Jake Sasser; sister, Betty Council ; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Sasser was born in Sardis, GA to the late Joseph L. and Pauline Bolton Sasser.  He was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church a US Navy veteran and had retired from E.I. Dupont after 37 years.

Dewey Larry Andrews

Augusta, GA – Dewey Larry Andrews, 61, entered into rest October 24, 2009, at University Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 29, 2009, at 2:00 P.M., from the chapel of Chance & Hydrick Funeral Directors. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Andrews was a native of Richmond County and was a carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Edward and Avis Reeves Andrews, his brothers, Terry Andrews and Harris Andrews, and his granddaughter, Hannah Gail Abernathy.

He is survived by his daughters, Tamera Lee Abernathy of Madison, Tina Monette Burrell of Aiken, Kimberly Marie Cosnahan of Augusta, and Crystal Ann Andrews of Hephzibah; brother, Jack Andrews of Evans; and sister, Bobby June Workman of Pigeon Forge, TN.

Thomaston, GA – Ralph E. Old, Jr., entered into rest Saturday, October 24, 2009, at Upson Medical Center.

Lester Solomon Durham

Hephzibah, Ga. – Mr. Lester Solomon Durham, 70,  husband of Margaret Duvall Durham of 49 years  went home to be with the angels  on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at University Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 26, 2009 at 1:00 P.M., in the Hephzibah United Methodist Church with Reverend T.G. Hall officiating.  Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Buddy Gormley, Billy Maynard, Kenneth Moore, Joe Clemmons, Joe Thompson and Al Abbott.

Others survivors include his daughter Lorie Dekle and her husband Larry; sons, Alan Durham and his wife Cara, Christian Durham and his wife Angela; three grandchildren, Cecil Simmons, Justin Tate and Conner Durham.

Lester was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.  He was a member of Hephzibah United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed collecting and restoring antique cars. He was a race car driver in the 1960′s and was recently inducted into The Augusta International Speedway’s Hall of Fame and was employed by Clearwater Finishing Plant for 25 years.

Vera M. McDowell

Martinez, GA – Mrs. Vera M. McDowell, 80, wife of the late James M. McDowell, entered into rest Thursday, October 22, 2009, at The Place at Martinez.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at 11:00 AM, in Westview Cemetery, with the Reverend Marion Jay officiating.

Mrs. McDowell, daughter of the late Bertram Freeman and Bertha Nye Marshall,  was a genealogist and an author.  She was a member of the Augusta Genealogical Society and the Colonial Dames.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth Marshall, William Marshall, and Richard Marshall, and by her sister, Janet Marshall.

She is survived by family friends Lisa and Tai Doick and Will and Adam Doick, of Martinez; brother and sister in law, Bertram and Ruth Marshall, of Connecticut; niece Jerri Brown and her husband Andy; great niece, Tricia Izzo; great great niece, Avery Izzo; nephew, Donald Tilton and his wife, Janet; and great niece, Angel Tilton.

Augusta, GA – Blaine D. Paquin, 48, of Yates Drive, husband of Sarah Sullivan Paquin, entered into rest Tuesday, October 21, 2009, at the Medical College of Georgia.

Mr. Paquin worked at Kimberly Clark as a forklift operator.

Summer, a lifelong resident of the Augusta area was a fifth grade student at Euchee Creek Elementary School. She attended Shiloh United Methodist Church. She loved to talk and sing, to listen music and to dance and to get all dressed up.
